This I Thought was True
Coca-Cola Could Dissolve A Tooth Overnight
Coca-Cola could dissolve a tooth overnight. This I thought was true. When I was in elementary school, my teacher told us that Coca-cola is so bad for us, it would dissolve a tooth overnight. This, I used to believe. As I grew up, the details of the statement kept changing from tooth to coins to nails. The truth is: pretty much any liquid with sugar and acid in it can eventually dissolve a tooth over a long period of time, including lemonade and fresh orange juice. However, the act of drinking only gives a few seconds of contact time between the liquid and our teeth. Any residual sugar and acid would be washed away by our saliva. Unless you are planning on holding a gulp-full of coke in your mouth without swallowing or producing saliva, there is nothing to worry about if you brush your teeth regularly.
Lydia is eating dinner at T.G.I.Friday’s with her friend Lucy. It’s their first time at this American restaurant and they are pretty excited. They’re celebrating because they just finished taking their midterm exams. They are study buddies and they promised each other that if they were able to pull off the final exams, they would go to T.G.I.Friday’s again. They have ordered two appetizers and a main dish. Now they’re considering sharing a dessert.
